Made Ground 01

Made Ground 01 was a public art installation with Shona Kitchen on Governors Island that explored geoengineering proposals and artificial land-making in response to climate change. Specifically, it engaged with current U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposals to reshape New York Harbor through the construction of flood barriers and artificial islands as well as Governors Island’s expansion through the addition of 50% dredge spoil infill. In this context, spoil islands are reimagined not as byproducts of technological progress but as prototypes for speculative living in a destabilized future. The publication includes information about the research trajectory of the project, alongside writing by Charlie Hailey and Damian White, with interviews with Jan Zalasiewicz, Naomi Oreskes, Mark Williams and Bill McKibben. It is 220 pages, full cover and perfect bound. Forthcoming from Krisis (Italy).
